Fleets Cutting Back on Driver Recruitment

Fleets have already started to feel the capacity crunch, leaving carriers scrambling to find drivers to fill trucks that have been parked for months. As the economy continues to improve and freight volumes accelerate, the driver shortage will inevitably return.

But this time around, fleets' recession cost-cutting measures as well as the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010 will exacerbate the problem of finding and hiring drivers, industry analysts say.

Texting Ban While Driving CMVs

As officially appears in Federal Register The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) issued a “Notice of regulatory guidance” on January 27, 2010, concerning texting while driving a commercial motor vehicle (CMV).

The guidance is applicable to all interstate drivers of CMVs subject to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs). The regulatory guidance is effective immediately.
